DISCLAIMERS: 1. If this is your kaiju, don't take negative criticism too badly. You should use any possible critiques I give to make your creation better overall. You could also go off about me on my wall but that's a waste of time and really helps no one. 2. This series also heavily relies on my own personal preferences, so there is bound to be bias in the reviews and disagreements over some statements I make.[]
Hey chaps. It's been a hot year and nine months since I last actually made one of these. High school kicked my energy's ass and COVID-19 complicated things beyond belief. I've had a brief stroke of motivation to do a new review, now with more exhaustion, a bit more knowledge and far less time on my hands. I decided to perhaps try and ease myself back into it with a quick review of Wrath made by SuperNerd295, who was chosen by the good old random page method.
Wrath[]
Wrath seems to be a very, very old kaiju last updated in 2017. For reference, I had been on this wiki for a little over a week when it was last updated. Won't stop me though; the button made its choice.
Appearance (the image is absolutely huge; click on it for the full thing)[]
Wrath is 115 meters tall and bears much resemblance to a knight. His armor is blue and black with a T-shaped visor and a trapezoidal head. The armor has small spikes on the arms and shoulders (ouch!) and he carries a large white sword.
Well, there's not really much for me to say here. The descriptor here could be neat but, to put it simply, the image isn't very good. This is almost certainly because it's nearly four years old, because I've seen more recent art from Nerd and it's a lot better.
History[]
Wrath wasn't always a kaiju. He was apparently a 39 year old man named Joseph Reighwood, and is a serial killer suspected for several third degree homicide charges within Wales. I guess he's killing someone in his house when a 15 year old girl waltzes to his door and asks what the screams inside are. After the girl refuses to learn about how Mister Reighwood got his scars, he chases and corners the 15 year old and kills her.
Let's get this off the bat: this is very edgy. It may be related to the idea of the sin of wrath, but to me it feels more like an excuse to make him a crazy, edgy killer. Instead maybe it could be more related to en.wikipedia.org's definition of wrath, whereby "Wrath often reveals itself in the wish to seek vengeance." Someone could perhaps wrong Mister Reighwood in some way and he goes off the rails killing that person. Besides that, Mister Reighwood turns himself into the Welsh version of police officers and is executed for being an edgelord.
Mister Reighwood is eventually reborn at Stonehenge as Wrath via dark magic that is not explained. He's apparently a glass cannon type; one that can dish out enormous damage but can't take much himself. To compensate Gluttony and Lust are created, and they probably do lots of "good" across universes before meeting the "good" old Council of Creators. A dark presence which is also never explained is following them. A lot of dark stuff that isn't explained.
The history is fine. It's not amazing and I think it could use a good deal of work, but it's serviceable. Make it less edgy at the start and maybe divulge a bit about his revival and I think it could be pretty neat.
Powers[]
Wrath only has three abilities but all three seem quite powerful. He can manipulate the ground, create tremors that might cause enemies to fall into lava, and go on a genocidal rampage. I'm not a huge fan of the ground abilities since they don't feel like they have much relation to the idea of wrath, but I made a combination of two water-based creatures and gave them volcanic abilities so I'm not in much of a position to judge. Besides there's not much you can do with the idea of wrath-based abilities; I think Blood Lust is probably about the closest you can get.
Name[]
Wrath's name comes from the deadly sin of Acedia
Trivia[]
Wrath's armor is apparently based off an anime woman's own armor, and is the only friend of the aforementioned Lust. Not much interesting stuff here, but I think it's a good time to say that I've developed more tolerance towards anime, so that's cool I guess.
Conclusion[]
Wrath is alright. It's not amazing, but it's not terrible - it's just alright. I think the idea of a wrath kaiju could work, but this one is just old and really needs some renovative work. I'll give it a 5/10 because while it has a potentially interesting idea, its age and overall meh execution leaves much to be desired. That's really about it for now; as always, see ya in the next one.
