Keratos is a mutant cutaneous pathogen, and a major antagonist in Periodic Genesis: Dawn of Sepsis, created by KoopaGalaxain. He is one of Sepsis's three subordinates.

Appearance[]

While bearing a slight resemblance to Godzilla, Keratos has been heavily modified by Sepsis, being derived from the latter's own DNA. Keratos's horns, dorsal fins, blades and pauldrons are made of Keratin, a substance found in skin, hair, nails and other cutaneous tissue.

As Scalpel Keratos, Keratos's appearance changes substantially. His Keratos Blades are replaced with their enhanced versions, which are thinner, sharper and more metallic. His skin grows darker, and he gains armour plating on his chest and abdomen, with an orange gem embedded in his stomach, which serves an unknown function. He also gains a vaguely axe-shaped protrusion on the end of his tail. Finally, Scalpel Keratos has a helmet made of keratin with a nasal horn, which completely covers the top half of his head.

After being mortally wounded by Keratos-WZ's Keratin Storm, Scalpel Keratos's eyes alternate between a red and yellow glow. He also loses both of his Keratos Blades, a significant portion of the protrusion on the end of his tail, and all of his dorsal fins.

Personality[]

Keratos, at least on the surface, is somewhat polite in his speech. His utterances are blunt, and he shows great stoicism, being little more than a killing machine designed to follow orders. However, once in battle, Keratos becomes ruthless and unfeeling, intent on snuffing out the lives of his opponents as quickly and painfully as possible.

After transforming into his Scalpel form, Keratos becomes extremely prideful and arrogant, believing that succeeding in defeating his opponents is all but inevitable.

History[]

Periodic Genesis: Dawn of Sepsis[]

Interim Saga[]

After creating Keratos, Myos and Organon, Sepsis tasked them with hunting down the Periodic Genesis Kaiju led by Caesium. Keratos located and killed Germanium; however, a piece of the Ocean Monster's flesh had survived, and regenerated into a new individual, Germanium II.

Keratos Saga[]

KeratosDebutPanel

Keratos's first appearance in the series, shortly after wounding WeegeeZilla

Shortly after WeegeeZilla awoke in the ruins of the city that once housed his laboratory, Keratos was sent to attack him. Brutally wounding WeegeeZilla and leaving him in a pool of his own blood with his Abdomen Gem torn out, the mutant left the hero for dead, only to be confronted by Germanium II.

Germanium II fought well, only to be defeated after Keratos used his Scalpel Beam on the monster's tendrils, breaking them in half.

Suddenly, WeegeeZilla gained new strength, and used his Absorption Inheritance on Keratos, gaining his characteristics, and the battle was resumed!

Keratos, in the process of transforming into his Scalpel Form.

Keratos appeared to be scared of the new form his opponent had taken, and in desperation began to transform, taking on his ultimate form, Scalpel Keratos. Germanium II finished regenerating his broken tendrils to witness Keratos assuming his Scalpel form. Scalpel Keratos immediately regained the upper hand, brutally slashing at both WeegeeZilla and Germanium II, holding them at bay. He then fired his Keratinizer Beam, which immediately took effect, turning WeegeeZilla's right forearm into a keratinized husk.

However, WeegeeZilla refused to give up hope, and, focusing energy into the husk, shattered it into a cloud of tiny, razor-sharp keratin shards, in an improvised Secret Technique dubbed the 'Keratin Storm'. Scalpel Keratos's body was rapidly eroded by the shards, and soon blood began erupting from his body.

Keratos's Death

Keratos, in the process of dying to the Keratin Storm technique.

Very well... if you plan to take on my comrades... IT'S YOUR FUNERAL! Heheheheh... HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA! „

— Keratos's last words before his delayed death.

Despite this gruesome technique, Keratos hadn't been killed. He briefly attempted to attack Germanium II while the latter was off guard, but was caught and restrained by WeegeeZilla's Energy Tendril Blades. After informing the two heroes of the presence of Myos and Organon, Keratos had just enough time to taunt them one more time, before laughing uncontrollably as he exploded. Keratos was finally dead.

With Keratos's destruction, Fake Sepsis's consciousness began to reawaken from inside the void he had been placed in by Sepsis after failing in his original purpose.

Myos Saga[]

Scalpel Keratos Keratin Storm Flashback

A flashback of Scalpel Keratos being mortally injured by WeegeeZilla's Keratin Storm, seen in Dawn of Sepsis #34.

With Keratos dead, his appearance in the Myos Saga is restricted to a flashback seen from Myos's perspective in Dawn of Sepsis #34.

Though Scalpel Keratos's body was almost completely destroyed by the effects of the Keratin Storm, his helmet and pauldrons were all that survived. These would later be found and taken by Germanium II, who wore the armour to deceive Myos after the latter had defeated WeegeeZilla, giving the scientist just enough time to recover some of his energy and get back to his feet, instead of facing certain death at the hands of the mutant pathogen.

Council Of Creators[]

Sepsis Arc[]

Keratos was first seen in Episode 1, fighting Koopa in Universe 1996, when the Council of Creators suddenly joined the fight. Keratos held his own, being able to stand against Scoobydooman90001 in physical combat, and withstood the combined atomic beams of Koopa and Cdrzillafanon's Godzilla form. He was defeated when he tried to use his Scalpel Beam on SuperNerd295, only for Koopa jump in and redirect the energy with his absorption powers. Keratos could not withstand his own attack, and was killed. Following the battle, Koopa joined the Council of Creators.

Keratos was later resurrected by Sepsis in Episode 20, and after a harsh talking to was sent back to mount a second attempt against the Council of Creators. Despite being sent to fight the Creators again, both Myos and Organon went on to appear before he managed to reach the team for a rematch.

Keratos would later return at the climax of Episode 40, where he killed a weakened Organon to show off the power of his new 'Scalpel Keratos' form. In a battle which pushed the exhausted Creators to their absolute limits, Scalpel Keratos nearly killed the Creators and Hokuto Black King, only to become paralysed when he fell and struck his head and neck on a railway bridge. He was then killed when Class 166illa - who had been approaching the bridge at the time - accidentally collided with his head.

Abilities[]

Keratos

Keratos's standard form.

Abilities[]

  • Keratos Blade (ケラトスブレイド Keratosu Burēdo?): Keratos's two keratin blades are incredibly sharp, capable of cutting through any organic tissue.
  • Scalpel Beam (メス熱線 Mesu Nessen?): A blood red variant of Godzilla's Atomic Breath that cuts opponents from the inside out. Used once on Germanium II. This move is ineffective against Keratos's hardened tissues, and thus didn't work on WeegeeZilla once he assumed Keratos's Absorption Inheritance form.
  • Super Reflexes: Keratos's reflexes and perception are significantly enhanced compared to other monsters; this allows him to carry out attacks at a much higher rate, and anticipate what his opponents are going to do next.

Scalpel Keratos

Keratos's second, stronger form. It is optimised towards speed and brute force, and features several improvements over Keratos's standard form.

Abilities[]

  • Enhanced Keratos Blade (強化ケラトスブレード Kyōka Keratosu Burēdo?): Scalpel Keratos's blades have been transformed into wickedly sharp biometallic weapons that combine metals into a protein matrix of keratin. These blades are able to cut through organic tissue like butter, and are even capable of killing far stronger monsters such as Organon in his Ultimate Phenomenon form.
  • Enhanced Scalpel Beam (強化メス熱線 Kyōka Mesu Nessen?): After transforming into Scalpel Keratos, Keratos's Scalpel Beam's power increases by 200%.
  • Keratin Armour Plating (ケラチンアーマーメッキ Kerachin Āmāmekki?): Scalpel Keratos boasts improved armour compared to his regular form, especially around his head, composed of similar materials to his Keratos Blades. His underbelly is also protected by thickened and hardened skin.
  • Keratinizer Beam (ケラチナイザービーム Kerachinaizā Bīmu?): Scalpel Keratos can fire a red beam from his eyes that has the power to keratinize areas of the target it hits.
  • Swordsman's Resilience (剣士の回復力 Kenshi no Kaifuku-ryoku?): After transforming, Scalpel Keratos's endurance and strength is even more impressive than it was in his Standard Form, being able to withstand almost anything WeegeeZilla and Germanium II could throw at him; his strength only faltered against WeegeeZilla's improvised Keratin Storm technique. After being mortally wounded, Scalpel Keratos's durability rapidly faded away, leaving him vulnerable to attacks such as WeegeeZilla's Energy Tendril Blades.

Trivia[]

  • In his debut appearance in Dawn of Sepsis #4, Keratos's subtitle is erroneously written as Cutaneous Beast (皮膚獣 Hifu-jū?) instead of Cutaneous Demon Beast, his actual subtitle.
  • Keratos's original form looked substantially different from that seen in the comic and Council of Creators, sporting the general body plan of Godzilla as seen in Mothra vs. Godzilla and Ghidorah, the Three-Headed Monster, rather than the Heisei-based design he has in his final design.
  • During the development of Scalpel Keratos, I originally planned for his dorsal fins, teeth and claws, pauldrons, armour and Keratos Blades to be silver in colour, rather than them being based predominantly on his base form's colour scheme, but changed this after completing the sprite itself. This older colour scheme can be found in this article's gallery.
