Hybrehemoth is a hybrid kaiju made by KingOfKretaceous, and is the first enemy of Sharkosuchus.
Name[]
The name Hybrehemoth is a portmanteau of the words hybrid and behemoth, which refers to its origins as a hybridized creature and its huge size.
Design[]
Hybrehemoth has a generally serpentine build with some more insectoid features. The head and hood resemble that of a cobra, with two pit viper horns above the eyes and a pair of cricket-like antennae between the eyes and nostrils. Most of the teeth are thin and needle-like, except for the two large frontal fangs which help inject venom. Eye-like patterns are located on the hood, which can be utilized as an intimidation display.
Directly between the first two of the larger leg pairs are a pair of draconian wings, which allow Hybrehemoth to take flight. Most of Hybrehemoth's legs are arthropod-like, with eight larger, more versatile legs and fifteen pairs of much smaller and more vestigial centipede-esque legs. At the end of Hybrehemoth's tail is a rattle not unlike a rattlesnake; in fact, it serves the same purpose and functions mostly the same.
The coloration pattern of Hybrehemoth resembles that of a coral snake, with alternating red and black stripes with yellow inbetween. Deviations from this general pattern are the eye patterns on the hood (orange and pale), the claws (white), the inside of the mouth (pink in color), the rattle on the tail (a dark reddish-orange), and the eyes (bright amber).
Personality[]
Hybrehemoth is mostly reclusive, but often curious. He spends most of his time in underground burrows away from most surface organisms, only surfacing if his tunnels are otherwise threatened. On the surface, if something catches his interest he will often investigate further, such as his exploration of the collapsing areas of Stanford and Palo Alto, as well as his initial curiosity of Sharkosuchus emerging from Pinatubo.
Origins[]
After the Pearl City Incident where the United States Armed Forces completely failed to stop Sharkosuchus, many groups began research into non-conventional methods to neutralize the kaiju. One group of scientists located in Stanford had the idea to use venom to kill Sharkosuchus. They began by researching individual animal venom and soon various toxic molecules, but none were potent enough to be effective in reasonable quantities. They eventually found their answer by looking into hybridization; they had created the venom they had been seeking for by combining dozens of species. They extracted the venom from the creature they called Hybrehemoth; while they originally planned to keep him alive, it soon began exhibiting signs of rapid growth. Due to this and the potency of his venom, the researchers made the call to kill him - after doing the job, they disposed the corpse by burying him within a woodlands area.
History[]
First Generation[]
Hybrehemoth (game; later adapted to film)[]
Unknown to the scientists, Hybrehemoth had managed to survive the attempt on his life. Without much other way to survive, he began creating a network of tunnels within the woods, sustaining himself on whatever animals he found above or below ground. As this happened his rapid growth continued; as a result he became too large to only burrow within the woods, marking the beginning of his tunnel expansion into Stanford and the neighboring Palo Alto. This caused both city's foundations to become destabilized, and soon sinkholes began swallowing both regions. The debris and dirt began filling up the tunnels rapidly, forcing Hybrehemoth up to the surface, and soon began exploring what was left of the collapsed cities. The United States, who had been on edge since 1984, responded to a second kaiju swiftly by sending numerous aerial squadrons to do battle. The ensuing fight caused most of the still standing structures in both cities to be destroyed; the later-named Stanford-Palo Alto Incident marked a second defeat for the United States Armed Forces. However the battle prompted Hybrehemoth to flee across the Pacific to the Filipino island of Luzon, eventually creating a new tunnel network centered around Mount Pinatubo.
Sharkosuchus vs. Hybrehemoth (film)[]
In 1991, Hybrehemoth's series of tunnels had destabilized Mt. Pinatubo to the point where it erupted. In the minutes leading up to Pinatubo's climactic eruption, magma from the volcano had filled up most of Hybrehemoth's system of burrows, forcing him to emerge on the surface in the midst of both the eruption and Typhoon Yunya. While he began to rest for a few minutes, this was not to last, as the volcano's top suddenly collapsed as another organism emerged from the volcano's side. Curious, Hybrehemoth flew over in order to investigate; this meeting with Sharkosuchus quickly devolved into a confrontation, as the latter was more interested in asserting dominance. It took an equally fast amount of time for the battle to become a clear stalemate, as Hybrehemoth's higher agility and faster reflexes were countered by Sharkosuchus' ranged attack and physical strength, and vice versa. The battle eventually ended as Hybrehemoth elected to flee southeast, eventually landing and resting on Mindanao's northeastern coast.
A few hours later, his rest was interrupted once again by Sharkosuchus' arrival on the coast, forcing him to do battle once again. This clash was just as inconclusive as before and lasted even longer than the first. Finally, Hybrehemoth managed to gain the upper hand by using a newly discovered ability: a spinneret located inside his tail, capable of shooting out a sticky web-like substance. This was enough to immobilize Sharkosuchus and allow Hybrehemoth to move close enough to inject his venom. With this, it appeared the fight had ended as Sharkosuchus rapidly began to weaken; as a result, Hybrehemoth elected to fly back over the Pacific to Stanford with his new prize. Before he could cross the Philippine Trench, however, Hybrehemoth was taken by surprise as Sharkosuchus blasted one of his wings, paralyzing it with a layer of stone. With this, both kaiju fell into the sea, and a final scuffle firmly in Sharkosuchus' favor signaled the demise of the hybrid, who was dragged into the depths of the ocean and drowned.
Abilities[]
Tunneling[]
Hybrehemoth is capable of creating underground tunnel systems via digging. He accomplishes this by using his snout to scoop out large portions of the ground, as his forelimbs are not capable of reaching in front of him. His generally slender build also allows him to easily traverse these tunnels.
Flight[]
Hybrehemoth is relatively lightweight, which allows him to utilize his wings to fly. This has proven to be very useful, as flight is his main method when he is not underground in burrows.
Intimidation[]
The frill of Hybrehemoth being designed to appear as a pair of eyes allows it to appear larger than it truly is, unsettling enemies that fight it. The rattle, which it can shake vigorously to produce a loud rattling sound, can have the same effect.
Venom[]
The main weapon of Hybrehemoth is his venom, as it is the most potent throughout all of Universe 372. While the venom is most often used when Hybrehemoth bites an opponent, he is capable of building pressure in his teeth and blasting out the venom in a "pseudobeam" attack. This projectile is generally enough to slice through weaker materials, although for actual battles it is more useful for attacking weak spots such as the eye.
Silk[]
An ability discovered very late into Hybrehemoth's lifespan, he is able to fire silk from the rattle end of his tail. This silk is very similar to the material used by spiders to construct webs, albeit on a much larger scale and therefore far harder to actually break.
Weaknesses[]
Hybrehemoth's low weight and slim body make him very susceptible to melee attacks, forcing him to keep a sizeable distance during combat; environments that do not allow him to do this often result in a lost battle. His curiosity on the surface can also lead to trouble, as his exploration of Stanford and Palo Alto was taken as hosility while his investigation of Sharkosuchus ultimately led to his demise.
Trivia[]
- Hybrehemoth was incepted when KingOfKretaceous randomly drew something trying to think of an enemy for Sharkosuchus.
